PRHS is well represented and supported by the School Advisory Council, with members meeting monthly throughout the school year. Reports are provided by teacher reps, administration, PRHS Student Council and community.
The SAC welcomes all of our school-community to attend any of our monthly meetings and we invite you to submit agenda items two days in advance of a meeting. Individuals may request to speak to their item if the agenda is not already full for that meeting.
Many thanks to all members o f the SAC as we begin another year of exciting growth and possibility at both PRES and PRHS.
Meetings take place at the PRHS Library at 5:00pm.
SAC Monthly Meeting Minute Summary
April 2021
On April 8th, 2021 the Parrsboro Regional High School Advisory Council met to discuss ways to improve student wellbeing and achievement. The school currently has tons of support for both staff and students in place via our regional Mathematics and Literacy coaches. We are awaiting operational approval to move forward with building the Greenhouse, as well as quotes for updating the Basketball court. The SAC unanimously approved $300 to go towards refurbishing the Foods Lab with stainless steel bowls, new utensils, etc. It was a short and sweet meeting!
March 2021
On March 4th, 2021 the Parrsboro Regional High School Advisory Council met to discuss ways to improve student wellbeing and achievement. We have a new, additional parent representative to welcome, Buffy-Jo Perry! In the coming months, our English Language Arts teachers will be assessing junior high student reading levels as a way to see where kids are and learn about how we can improve literacy. For this, the council authorized spending on support teachers that will be needed in the classroom during testing days. We then discussed and supported a budget for 16 new library books that are accessible format and represent social justice areas. The SAC also approved a $2000 donation to the PRHS Warrior Chest which is a free, open-access pantry stocked with a variety of food, hygiene, and other household items. All students are able to access the Warrior Chest and take what they need to improve equity in the school community.
February 2021
The Parrsboro Regional High School Advisory Council met virtually on February 4th, 2021 to discuss spending proposals aimed at improving numeracy, literacy, and well-being at PRHS. We are in the process of getting quotes to resurface the basketball courts outside which will allow more options for how students spend their break and lunch times. Last year, PRHS won a Health Promoting Schools grant for a garden space, including a greenhouse! Unfortunately, with COVID shut downs, we were unable to set up the outdoor space last spring. SAC has approved funding for concrete slabs to place the greenhouse on, and we are optimistic that this construction will start following warmer weather. Finally, the SAC discussed and approved the implementation of two programs focused on student well-being in the classroom; crochet/knitting supplies for a soft start/lunch activity and art therapy, which will be led by our school Guidance Teacher, Ms Gauthier.
